Original pencil layout for page 42 of the Billy the Cat series by Stéphane Colman, drawn on tracing paper, approximately 30 × 42 cm, in good condition.
Description from the seller
We present a rare and immersive workshop piece for enthusiasts of the Franco-Belgian comic creation process: the complete original preliminary pencil layout for page 42 of a Billy the Cat album.
Drawn entirely in pencil on architect/animation tracing paper by the artist Stéphane Colman, this rare document reveals the raw energy, the search for movement, and the entire narrative construction of the artist before the inking stage. The board features Billy the Cat and the series’ other iconic animals with a great deal of humor and dynamism in a sequence of rhythmically visual gags.
Artwork features:
Artist: Stéphane Colman
Series: Billy the Cat
Nature of the object: Original exploratory and layout pencil (unique production piece).
Support / Technique: Lead pencil on period technical tracing paper. You can see construction lines, hand-lettered speech bubbles by the author, and framing notes (movement arrows in the bottom right).
Inscriptions and Margins: Handwritten pencil note in the lower margin: "Jérôme Flament 071 / 600 574" beside the plan number circled "42".
Dimensions: Standard studio working size (approximately 30 x 42 cm).
Condition:
Good overall studio condition. As an authentic working document used in the studio, the tracing paper shows slight natural waviness and very discreet handling marks along the edges (notably a small browning/trace of historic adhesive in the top-left corner outside the frame), which do not affect the superb legibility of the drawing. The pencil line remains perfectly sharp and contrasted."
