Sculpture, Moretti - 113 cm - Polychrome wood

This pair of large sculptures "Moretto" from the late 19th or early 20th century depicts two standing figures in rich exotic costumes inspired by Venice. Made of richly carved, polychromed and gilded wood, the figures wear a turban topped with a tall plume, jackets with damascened decorations and coordinated footwear, while they hold with both hands a wide, shell-shaped golden basin. The sculptures rest on integrated octagonal bases and show lively expressiveness in their faces, accompanied by a beautiful antique patina that enhances the contrasts between the dark parts and the rich gilding.
