Description from the seller
Dresser Nightstand Monofiore in Walnut with Marble Top – Late 19th / Early 20th Century
Splendid and solid antique nightstand (monofiore) made of solid walnut wood with veneer, dating from the period between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. This piece perfectly embodies the classical elegance and robustness of the period’s cabinetry, ideal for adding a touch of warmth and history to a bedroom or as a refined coffee/entryway table.
Main Features & Construction Details
Material: Fine walnut wood with beautiful fishbone (geometric) grain patterns on the front of the door and drawer.
Architectural Elements: The front is adorned with two beautiful turned and moulded columns on the sides of the central passage, giving the piece visual stability and a distinctly classical character (visible in DSC_0058.JPG and DSC_0062.JPG).
Top Surface: Elegant gray-veined marble slab, removable and shaped at the edges, which adds prestige and ensures excellent daily usability (the removed marble is visible in detail in DSC_0071.JPG).
Storage Space: Equipped with a top drawer with a wooden knob and hand-cut dovetail joints, a hallmark of authenticity and artisanal quality (visible in DSC_0076.JPG). Under the drawer there is a cabinet door that opens laterally, internally divided by a practical wooden shelf (DSC_0073.JPG).
Base: The unit rests on a solid plinth base supported by four onion-turned feet (DSC_0081.JPG).
Condition of the Furniture
The nightstand is presented in generally good conservative condition, solid and structurally intact. Being an antique item, it shows natural and charming signs of time that attest to its authenticity:
There are some light chips and signs of wear on the wood finish, particularly on the sides, back, and bottom edge of the base (as highlighted in the detail photos DSC_0065.JPG, DSC_0066.JPG, and DSC_0081.JPG).
The wooden surface beneath the marble shows a patina of time (DSC_0068.JPG), while the marble itself is intact and free of cracks.
The interior of the drawer and the cabinet show traces of age but are clean and fully functional (DSC_0076.JPG, DSC_0078.JPG).
