Description from the seller
Pablo Mañé (1921-2004) - Modern Still Life with Chairs - Catalan School - Oil on Canvas - Framed
Exceptional original work by the renowned Hispano-Uruguayan painter and translator Pablo Mañé Garzón (1921-2004), signed in the upper left corner. It is a modern still life indebted to constructivist avant-gardes and geometric interiors, one of the most representative, personal and valued themes within the artist's mature production.
The work is a superb example of Mañé's highly personal artistic language, whose solid training in Paris as a direct pupil of the Cubist master André Lhote is evident in the rigorous spatial structuring of the scene. Through a skillful juxtaposition of planes and an intelligent color palette, the author creates a high-impact visual contrast: the vibrant and bold red of the classic-design chairs stands out decisively against a background of subtle blue and gray tones, resolved with a textured and clean brushstroke. The wooden table in the foreground, arranged with a vase of flowers and schematized coffee cups, harmoniously balances the composition. This type of everyday scenes reinterpreted under an intellectual and geometric gaze places Mañé in a prominent position in contemporary painting, with his work represented in prestigious collections such as the Fundació Vila Casas, the Fundación Carmen & Lluís Bassat and the Fundació Iluro.
The painting is signed by the artist in his own hand in the upper left corner ("MAÑÉ"). It is presented in an excellent high-quality decorative frame that includes a textured fabric-wrapped passe-partout and an elegant outer frame of noble wood with a white filet that enhances the painting's luminosity and modernity. The condition of the paint layer and the structure is excellent.
