Exceptional late 19th century claret jug with an 800 silver mount and a hand-blown, hand-cut crystal body, standing 33 cm high with a 10 cm width and an 8 cm diameter, made in Germany by Hugo Schaper and identified by Eugen Marcus under catalog model 10874 in excellent vintage condition.
Description from the seller
Exceptional claret jug (old wine ewer) from the late 19th century. The upper mounting is richly chased in solid 800 fine silver, featuring lavish neobaroque decoration with rocaille motifs, vegetal scrolls, high-relief flowers, and an ergonomically elegant handle. The hinged lid ends in an intricate decorative knob.
On the front of the mounting, a central cartouche stands out with a beautifully intertwined monogram finely hand-engraved, topped by a noble crown.
The lower body is made of high-quality transparent crystal, hand-blown and hand-cut with a dynamic helical design of continuous spiral channels that stylizes the jug’s silhouette and amplifies the play of light.
Marks and Punches (Authenticity Guarantee)
The piece is fully identified and verified on the silver neck with the following impressed marks:
- Seal of the famed court goldsmith: "E. MARCUS" (Eugen Marcus, Berlin)
- Casting catalog model number: "10874" (Corresponding to Hugo Schaper’s historic design for the prestigious Koch & Bergfeld firm)
- Metal purity punch: "800"
- German national marks of the era: Symbols of the Crescent and the Imperial Crown (Halbmond und Krone).
Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The crystal is immaculate: completely intact, with no chips, cracks, nicks, or internal clouding, preserving its original clarity. The silver mounting retains a magnificent patina that enhances the depth of the reliefs, with a hinge mechanism that is firm and in perfect working order.
A showroom piece ready for collection or immediate use on a high-end dining table.
