A striking still life oil painting signed “J. Kor”, depicting a carefully composed arrangement of fruit, a large decorative ewer and a small bowl on a cool blue tabletop. The work has a distinctive highly textured, impasto-like surface, with expressive layers of paint creating considerable depth across the fruit, ceramic objects and atmospheric background. The contrast between the cool blue tones of the table and ceramics and the warmer red, orange and brown tones gives the composition a particularly strong visual character. The dark, richly worked background creates an almost architectural setting, while the carefully modelled highlights on the fruit and ewer demonstrate the artist’s attention to light and surface.
