Gabriel Lékégian was Armenian, born in the 1850s in the Ottoman Empire. At first, his passion pushed him towards painting, but he clearly showed talent for art photography, as shown in this name: ‘Photog. Artistique G.Lékégian & Co’, affixed to the albumen photographs. He was invited to international exhibitions, where the whole profession revered him: a gold medal in Paris in 1892, a prize in Chicago in 1893.
In the ‘Golden triangle of Cairo photography’ where he was located, his career reached its peak when he became the official photographer of the Royal family.
