Pfaeltzer was born on June 27, 1955 in Hilversum. From 1973 to 1980 she studied sculpture and monumental painting at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam. From 1990 she spent several months a year for 15 years on the Netherlands Antilles, on St. Martin and St. Eustatius. The influence of the Antillean way of life is clearly reflected in her work from this period. Pfaeltzer also worked in Jingdezhen (China) on a collection of porcelain statues and plates.
