Very expressive Teke figure.coming from a private collection in Paris.

Sold with a custom made wood stand.

H= 27 cm, 30 cm on the custom made wood base.

CONDITION: wood, brown white kaolin and red tokula powder patina, sagittal hair crest, vertical lines on the face encrusted with tokula powder, a little restoration at the beard.

arms maternalistically carved in L chape holding the belly who has a cavity used to insert a magical charge, little cracks around the cavity. .

A figurative male carving representing an ancestor . They where used to heal and protect with some substances or medicines in the belly ( here missing, often they fall when drying out ). The white kaolin was often mixed with the bones of the ancestors to get in touch with their spirit and mixed with earth found on their grave.

A finely carved little power figure from the Teke tribe who lived in Congo DRC in areas surrounding Kinshasa.
