Agustín Alegre Monferrer (Santa Eulalia del Campo, Teruel, 1936). He studied in Teruel and at the Academia de San Carlos de Valencia, he was awarded by the Diputación Provincial de Teruel. First Medalla Nacional de Pintura, Academician of the Real Academia de San Luis de Zaragoza and Medalla al Mérito Cultural del Gobierno de Aragón. Los Amantes Gold Medal and Gold Medal of the City (Teruel City Council). His works have been requested for exhibitions throughout the national geography and in countries such as Italy, France, the United States or Japan. Considered by critics and by his own colleagues as one of the best figurative painters of his generation and as a pictorial reference in the recent history of Spanish art.
He has exhibited his works in Madrid, Milan, Bilbao, Zaragoza and Valencia, among many other cities. He has received, among others, the Moncada Prize, in 1995; the Benimar Golden medal, in 1957; several Ciudad de Albarracín prizes; the first Pintura al Aire Libre de Logroño Prize, in 1969; he received the grant “Pintores de África” awarded by the Spanish Government through the Dirección General de promoción del Sahara y del Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, in 1972; the Africa Medal in the 1974 Exposición de Pintores de Africa; the third medal at the Exposición Nacional de Bellas Artes, in 1976 and the Galerías Preciados Prize in 1977, among others. A street in Teruel bears his name.
