Intimately close to Rouen which inspired him unforgettable paintings, Léonard BORDES constantly showed his instinctive sensitivity in rich and moving works, indisputable mark of his talent which made him one of the most remarkable and productive painters of the School of Rouen . Born into a family of musicians, himself a cellist at the Théâtre des Arts, faithful to the teaching of the Masters of the Regional School of Fine Arts, Léonard BORDES, by combining his two passions, knew how to understand and translate the local poetry, the one of the Norman terroir and its metropolis in simple and sincere, melancholic or anecdotal canvases, but always built by quickly laid masses, punctuated by gnarled trees, threatening sky, and whose poignant suggestion sometimes joined some vibrant still lifes. Léonard BORDES never distorted the picturesque of his testimony of a constant humanity, whose love of art was in harmony with a few friendships, such as those of Gaston SEBIRE whom he accompanied in Spain, or Tony FRITZ-VILARS whose pen knew so perfectly how to define the personality and the destiny of this artist always infinitely dear to the heart of Rouen inhabitants.

André Ruellan, art critic
