The Karst and the soldiers who died in these locations are remembered by General Giuseppe Paolini who, after fighting on Monte Sei Busi and in the cities of Redipuglia and Fogliano, wanted to build a monumental cemetery near these lands.
The idea was immediately accepted by the Commander of the Third Field Army, Duke Emanuele Filiberto d’Aosta. Therefore, the cemetery on Colle Sant’Elia, called “Invitti della Terza Armata”, became the first necropolis of Redipuglia. It was built immediately after the war to express commemoration for the conflict that just ended and the close relationship with the territory.
