0658. Two Roman Crossbow Brooch

4th century AD.

Two solid bronze crossbow brooch with three onion-shaped knops ,hinged pin to the reverse- probably restored.
Cf. Hattatt, R., Brooches of Antiquity, Oxford, 1987, item 1268. 61 grams, 74 mm and 72 mm From the private collection of European collector; acquired on the UK art market from 1960-2000.

From the collection of European gentleman living in London. Collection formed around 1990s.
Ex European private collection, acquired around the 1990s on the German art market. Currently in UK private collector.
