Redemption of the son is an ancient custom in Judaism.
In the times of the temple, God commanded that every firstborn son will be a servant for the priests in the temple.
To get the boys off work and be raised at home, parents paid money to the priests for the first male baby born to the family.
Since then, the custom remains and every firstborn male has had this ritual.
The lot contains a silver bowl which is inscribed in Hebrew "Pidion Haben", as well as five special 925 silver coins for the ceremony.
Made in Chile in the 1930s bowl of 900 silver and 5 coins of 925 sterling silver (tested) made in Tunisia
Usually, the set is for a rabbi who does this ceremony for families.
The set is suitable for rabbis or families with children or as a gift to a rabbi or to a person who performs these ceremonies in the community or collectors.
