The Udjat Eye of Horus was a potent symbol of protection in ancient Egypt and became the most popular amulet. In legend, the first king Osiris was murdered by his evil brother Seth. When Osiris' son Horus grew to manhood he challenged his uncle in battle, where his eye was torn out. Thoth, the god of magic and medicine restored the eye and it became a symbol of healing and protection.
