Drawing of a fusileer of the guard with imperial eagle on the shako, signed “dV” at the bottom right.

Stuck on cardboard, on which the year “1919” and an assignment are written on the reverse, which reads:
"Hier heb je een kleine Teekening van je oom. Vermaak je er mede. Groeten aan je ouders en zuster. Je oom, De Veer."

Justus Pieter de Veer (Dutch East Indies, 1845 - The Hague, 1921) was one of the big names of the Dutch 19th-century painters of the military genre. In 1900 the well-known book De uniformen van de Nederlandsche Zee- en Landmacht was published in two volumes, hier te lande en in de koloniën. In addition to Jan Hoynck van Papendrecht, Willem Constantijn Staring and Justus Pieter de Veer have provided these books with illustrations.

The dimensions of the drawing is 4x12.5 cm, the passepartout 9x14 cm and the frame measures 11x16 cm.
