Description
Hartmann Schedel, Pleydenwurff u.a. - Schedelsche Weltchronik - 1493
Incunabula & early printing - Quantity: 1 - Hand coloured illustrations - Single sheet

Offered is a double page from the "Schedelschen Weltchronik", printed by Anton Koberger in Nuremberg in 1493. The "Schedelsche Weltchronik" was the first comprehensive work of a description of the world from the creation of the world to the date of printing in 1493. The Latin edition had an edition of 1400, of which about 400 are still preserved. Very few are original coloured as in this case. Depicted as woodcuts are:
Abraham, die Stadt Kairo, Verhinderung der Opferung Isaaks durch den Erzengel, Untergang Sodoms und Flucht Loths mit seinen Töchtern, biblische Stammbäume und weitere biblische Szenen. The author was the Nuremberg physician Hartmann Schedel. The young Albrecht Dürer should also have had a hand in the illustration.
