This fascinating book resembles many Bibles produced in the Victoria era and so it is sometimes referred to as the Livingstone "Bible". Beautifully illustrated with 21 full-page plates, including frontispiece ‘The Meeting of Stanley and Livingstone’, coloured portrait of Livingstone, and 19 fabulous sepia plates depicting various African scenes, tribal life, and exploration. The book also include a coloured map of Africa.
Published by Edward Slater, Leeds, ca.1875 (This book is generally attributed to John S. Roberts and estimated to have been printed around 1875 although it is undated).
The book (Thick Folio) is bound in black Victorian leather with bevelled edges, and two brass clasps. Boards with embossed gilding designs. Highly ornate gilt decoration to both boards, both with lettering pieces and decorative gilt spine in six compartments with raised bands, gilt lettering pieces to compartment two.

A magnificent publication weighing in excess of three kilograms.
Wear to boards’ corners, and edges. Wear to spine cloth with little pieces missing at spine ends. Some repairs at outer joints of the covers, however they still held and could become loose or detached with future use. Internally; the book in good condition. No writing or inscription. Light foxing and spotting marks on some pages, and on the edges of pages. Inner hinges are very good. All pages are tightly held at the gutter and edged in gilt. The book contains 21 leaves of plate; all in good condition and mostly clean aside from the odd handling mark to the margin (Please see pictures).
