NELLI , Pietro. - There is only scant information on the life of this poet born at the beginning of the 16th century in a peasant family in the Sienese countryside.
Splendidly bound in red morocco, with gilded edges. 80 leaves (160 p.) This is a splendid copy. The is second edition.
Some autobiographical indications are obtained from the first book of Satire alla carlona (Venice, Paolo Gherardo [C. da Trino], 1548), published under the pseudonym of Andrea da Bergamo, where he states that both parents were peasants, that his father died alone 20 days after his birth and his mother shortly after, and finally that, at the age of nine, he was adopted by Giustiniano Nelli, a Sienese doctor from a rich family of silk makers.
The Satire alla carlona printed in 1548, dedicated by the publisher Gherardo to the Cypriot nobleman Eugenio Synglitico. The narration of the satires takes place mainly on Venetian backdrops; in them reference is made to the authors troubled life. Their are 16 rather crude satires in this book.
The second book is not bound in, as in the copy of the Beinecke library in Yale.
