Rare first edition of this valuable work by Schroeter,
embellished with 11 beautiful plates, repeatedly folded and beautifully coloured at the time.
Important conchologist, mineralogist and
palaeontologist, Schroeter (1735/1808) was a member of the
Academy of Sciences Leopoldina.
Teacher at the University of Jena and rector at the School of Dornburg.
He was also responsible for the collection
of natural history in Weimar.

From 1763 he became a German Protestant pastor.
Firm, coeval pale blue hardcover with golden label on the spine.
Some slight abrasions at the ends of the spine and small, superficial spots on the panels.
The 11 plates are very well preserved; free from tears, stains or erasures.
Even browning on the pages of text (see photos), without preventing the regular consultation of the book.
Monastic stamps on the title page and valuable bookplate on the front counter-plate.
In good overall condition.
