1 duodecimo volume (138 x 75 mm), 18th century glazed marbled calfskin binding, adorned smooth spine, red morocco title label, red edges, handwritten bookplate on the title page, - 298- pages (complete). Skilful restorations on the joints and headcap, clear water stains on the top of the first few leaves. In good condition.
Ultimate and lovely collective edition, the third, containing the Amours, Epithalame, Contr'Amours, Sonnets, Odes, followed by the three tragedies, consisting of long monologues and choruses, including the famous Cléopâtre captive, and the famous speech of Julius Caesar before the passage of the Rubicon.
Lastly, there is a long Ode à la chasse addressed to King Charles IX and the Vers funèbres sur la mort d'Estienne Jodelle written by Agrippa d'Aubigné.
Jodelle is sought after by theatre enthusiasts and by those interested in hunting literature. He wrote the first classical French tragedy, Cléopâtre, which was published in 1552 and led to the revival of theatre in France.
