In later half sheepskin and boards, presented with the original pink printed hard paper covers preserved.
The binding, probably later, is attractive. There are well-restored tiny tears to the title page and the first page of text (see photos), but these repairs are very discreet and minor. The internals are flawless and the colouring is very bright. Other copies of this work in French and English are always foxed and stained, so this is a startlingly bright copy. There is a modern note in ink on the front end paper.
The original pink covers have been preserved, and are of the 1832 edition, but the title page indicates the second edition, which is curious.
This work first appeared in 1832 (it was translated into English in the same year, but appeared as a quarto rather than, as here, a folio: 33 cm rather than 46 cm), and here it is issued revised and with an additional plate (‘2. éd., augm. d'une nouv. planche‘).
The plates are magnificent. The book is in fine condition, and with the additional plate, excellent binding, and presderved covers, it makes an excellent object.
