_________________________________________________________________

Charles Eugène de Lorraine, prince of Lambesc, proprietor of the Lorraine Dragoons regiment, was a figure of the French Revolution.
A member of the House of Lorraine, cousin of Emperor Francis I of the Holy Roman Empire and Queen Marie Antoinette, he came from a foreign sovereign house.

He received the King’s order to march on Paris and to disperse the crowd gathered at Louis XV Square on 12 July 1789 (present day Place de la Concorde). Rumour transformed the clashes into massacres. “... the King is sending the army [NB: and Lambesc was considered to be a foreign prince] to fire on the people...” ... July 14th began.

Prince de Lambesc emigrated in 1789 to Austria and never came back to France.
