History, Illustrated, Medicine - Quantity: 1 - Book

The world-famous book: Joh. van Beverwycks Wercken der genees-konste.
Complete with all engravings.

He was a well-read, learned and sensible man. Van Beverwijck was interested in new developments and contributed to medical science with his own experiments.
Johan van Beverwijck studied in Leiden, Paris, Montpellier and Padua, where he obtained his doctorate. Around 1618, he settled in his home town of Dordrecht. At the time, his Schat der gesontheyt (1636) and Schat der ongesontheyt (1642) were, with the Bible and the works of Jacob Cats, the most widely read books. He published his experiences with surgery in Steen-stuck (1638). Van Beverwijck was the first physician in the Netherlands to defend the new ideas on blood circulation put forward by the English physician William Harvey. He also left his mark on the Dutch language by inventing words for the pancreas and rectum.
