First edition of this impressive study on the status of women.

It was following the exhibition "La misère sociale de la femme", organized by the committee of the Oeuvre des libérés de Saint-Lazare, one of the first movements to help women, that this edition was born in order to perpetuate "the concern for a serious moral and social problem of which none of the privileged beings that we are has the right to ignore any longer.”

It is illustrated with 25 reproductions, including 8 tip-ins by Carpaccio, Callot, Watteau, Jeaurat, Hogarth, Debucourt, Goya, Gavarni, Traviès, Guys, Manet, G. Moreau, Degas, Rodin, A. Legros, Rops, Carrière, Forain, Renouard, Toulouse-Lautrec, Steinlen, R. Bloche. 10 original printes by Charles Cottet, André Devambez, Abel Faivre, Gaston La Touche, Charles Léandre, Auguste Lepère, Bernard Naudin, Alfred Roll, Steinlen, Jean Veber. Dropcaps.

Limited edition of 250 copies, one of the 220 on numbered Arches (no. 44). Rare.

Publisher’s binding in cream paperboard, in a cover with flaps and double case (portfolio and slipcase). Binding in very good condition, impeccable interior. Sunned spine with raised bands, small tear in the joints. Sturdy slipcase with traces of use and rubbing. Apart from these minor instances of damage, the copy is in very good condition.
