Arsène Alexandre / François Courboin - ‎Les Reines de l'aiguille. Modistes et couturières (Etude parisienne) - 1902
Fashion, Illustrated - Quantity: 1 - Book

First edition of this fascinating social study on the milieu of rue de la Paix and rue Royale seamstresses and milliners during the Belle Epoque, decorated, first printing, with 40 etchings by François Courboin.

Limited edition of 300 numbered copies. This one is one of the 100 copies on Imperial Japan (first paper before the 200 on vellum) containing 2 additional states of etchings on Japan: pure etchings and etchings with remarks in black.

Sociology of a world which has vanished, accompanied by delicate compositions by Courboin who illustrated many books by Uzanne and was also a historian of printmaking. They are very fresh and offer a testimony to the life of milliners and seamstresses living in the Paris of the year 1900: working in a workshop, the choice of fabrics, fittings, delivery of hats, balls, the “Midinettes” meals in the public garden, walks on the Grands Boulevards, etc.

Modern binding (posterior to the edition) in red half morocco. Gilded title on the spine. Uncropped copy, cover preserved without the spine.

Immaculate binding. Interior is also very clean and has no foxing. Two loose leaves, the rest is in very good condition.
