Extraordinary rare pamphlet concerning the farewell of Willem III as Stadtholder of Holland and West-Friesland in 1688
‘Redenen van Afscheyt van sijn Hoogheyt den Heere Prince van Orange, Gedaen ter Vergaderinge van de ed. Groot-mogende Heeren Staten van Hollandt ende West-Vrieslandt’. ‘Op Dingsdagh den 26. october 1688 - In 's Gravenhage, by Meyndert Uytwerff, Boeckverkooper in de Hallstraet’.
Special is the timing of the farewell: 26 October 1688. Less than a month later, Willem sailed to England with an invasion army of almost three hundred ships with the plan to dislodge his father-in-law and occupy the throne himself, in which he proved to be successful (Glorious Revolution). The fact that he said his farewell as Stadtholder shows that he was very convinced that his plan to become King of England would be successful.
Condition: the edges are thumbed, the title page incurred damage on the right side, the text however is intact (see photos).
The pamphlet will be shipped with track & trace.
