Gerdes, Edward ( "Ed") was born in Amsterdam on January 3, 1887. He was a pupil of FWM Deutman and K. van Leeuwen. Except that he was a painter, he was also an official of the Department of Public Information and the Arts in The Hague.
He painted, watercolors ,, drew and etched figures, portraits, church interiors, still lifes, landscapes etc.
He lived and worked in Amsterdam until 1921, Laren (the Raboes 12 Address Book: Laren - Blaricum 1938) to 1942 and then from 13-2-1942 in The Hague. He worked temporarily in Heeze na. 1905-1909, Moll (B) 1910 Bruges in 1911, and Ned. India
1916-1916. He made copies of several painters; van Eyck, Scorel, Frans Hals, etc. He was a member of the Gooi Painter Association, "Arti et Amicitiae" and "St. Luke's in Amsterdam. Ed Gerdes died in The Hague on May 10, 1945.
