Charles De Saint-Julien/ Bourdier, R./ MM. Rouargue, Outwaith et Kernot. - Voyage Pittoresque en Russie suivi d'Un Voyage en Sibérie - Costumes Caucase - 1854
First edition of this interesting travel account in Russia, illustrated in the first print with a title vignette, a frontispiece and 20 engravings engraved on steel under serpentine including 8 originals from Rouargue finely hand-colored at the time.
Copy established in a fine period binding in half brown shagreen, spine with nerves decorated with the author and the title gilded and boxes framed by fine and bold threads stamped in gold and cold, flat in calico adorned with cold , all gilded edges, moiré paper guards.
Interesting travel report, from Saint Petersburg to the Caucasus via Finland, Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod, followed by a journey from Saint Petersburg to Kamchatka. French journalist in Saint Petersburg from 1829 - he returned to Paris definitively in 1863 - Charles de Saint-Julien was an important eyewitness to the history of Russia in the 1850s.
Very nice copy, very decorative binding despite the slight defects of use on the back, corners of the covers a little rubbed. Interior clean and very fresh, despite some very pale scattered freckles. Plates under strong paper and under snakes, very light foxing.
