An extremely rare copy, free of foxing and in perfect condition, of this great classic of romantic illustrated books.
Les Voyages de Gulliver, illustrated by Jean-Jacques Grandville with 6 out of text images (5 title pages of the "Quatre voyages" and the appendix to the "Voyage à Lilliput", and the literary allegory in the frontispiece of the introduction, a woodcut frontispiece by Brévière) and 450 in text woodcut vignettes.
The frontispiece is one of the artist's finest works. Work admirably illustrated by Grandville - even the introduction to Walter Scott is illustrated - who displays all of his talent. Most of the pages are illustrated.
Period green half shagreen binding adorned on the spine with an elegant and lavish motif of gilded fleurons in the compartments, blind embossed percaline covers, all edges gilded, moiré endpapers.
Binding and inside in perfect condition. Apart from the lightly yellowed endpapers, there are no imperfections to report (which bibliophiles will appreciate).
New edition after the original published in 1838, here in one octavo volume.
