Mercedes-Benz - 280 SL - 1983

Original European car having always remained and used in Europe from Germany to Belgium - this is not an export product re-imported here but a car which has been manufactured, never modified and has always remained on the continent.

As counterintuitive as it may sound, perhaps the most reassuring thing one can learn about a car's history is that there isn't much to tell. In this case, it is an extremely honest and reliable car which has always been maintained by Mercedes; no drama, no fuss, just a quality car that has been used and maintained properly.

When it was new, thirty-eight years ago, its original owner saw it very well: two-tone blue and silver (silver body with a silver hardtop and a blue softop). The interior of this SL is in very good general condition, showing that it has always been properly maintained.

The seats are strong and supportive, with the leather in great condition; there is no noticeable wear on the bolsters and the front seats tilt correctly to allow access to the rear seats The dashboard is in very good condition; there are no lights on and the dials are working properly. Best of all, this car's two-tone silver / blue specification means that the dashboard itself is blue, which is really fantastic.

All wood trim is in good condition with no lacquer chipping or sun damage, and the car is equipped with a radio. The electric windows raise and lower correctly, the carpets (also blue) are in good condition.

Inside the trunk everything is neat and tidy, with the right carpet and hidden in their lockers we find a matching spare wheel as well as an original jack and tools. the car wears its original silver tint with panache, and the gray hardtop is in good condition. Everything is dry and solid under the barrel, and the hood lifts cleanly; This one is in very good condition. The bodywork is remarkably in good condition throughout.

With exceptional paintwork and no obvious evidence of corrosion other than a very small paint blister on the right front fender (see photo). The body appears free from stone chips, scuffs or scratches, and is extremely presentable.

All the chrome trim is present and correct, and in good condition, and the bright lenses and windows are all good too. In short: a car in superb condition which gives a lot of driving pleasure over long distances; still very regularly driven. It leaves by road any distance and starts straight away.
