With extensive handwritten dedication, dated ‘16 Augs 1943’, to the book collector W. van Spaendonck. This text is no less than 12 lines long + three lines of signature. Van Deyssel praises the city of Tilburg as ‘dat toonbeeld van stedelijke opkomst en bloei in de laatste halve-eeuw’ and also thinks back to his good acquaintances and relatives such as ‘de Diepens van eertijds’ and ‘mijn daar gelukkig getrouwd wonende peetekind Louise Mulder’.
