Mainline History:
Heavy diesel hydraulic locomotives of the Series BR 221 (formerly the Series V200.1) of the Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB) were used for the express passenger- and freight-train services. This series was a further development of the famous Series V200. This Series was slightly more powerful, and as such the engine compartments needed to be enlarged and the cabs had to be moved forward. Hence the nose is a little more flattened than the earlier V200/BR220 series.
