Dulieu, Jean - Paulus de Boskabouter - Originele aquarel - "Paulus, Gregorius & Pam" - Gepubliceerd in EVA - (Jaren 1963)
In the Second World War, Jan van Oort (1921-2006) created the Paulus de Boskabouter (the Woodgnome) comic character; the adventures of Paulus were published in newspaper Het Vrije Volk starting in 1946. Van Oort called himself “Jean Dulieu” (the French translation of Jan van Oort).
In addition to 8000 newspaper publications, Paulus also appeared in colour in a large number of magazines and children's books (translated in many countries). The watercolours Dulieu made for these publications are all small works of art.
Dulieu was an all-rounder, a versatile and virtuoso artist whose skill and talent kept pace with his pursuit of perfection. Jean Dulieu received many awards for his work and is considered among the three foremost Dutch illustrators of his time, Marten Toonder, Hans G. Kresse and Jean Dulieu.
Dulieu created the story “Paulus en de reis naar de Puntster” in 1951.
In the early 1960s Dulieu reused the Puntster theme for a beautiful serial in colour, that was first published in Eva magazine in 1963.
Dulieu made this watercolour for that publication. A wonderful composition, finely inked (mostly with colour contours) and with magnificent colours.
