The author examines the question of the American origin of syphilis by confronting Astruc, Dr. Sanchez, the texts of Job and the famous statutes of Queen Jeanne. Although the medical profession of his time rallied to Astruc's affirmative opinion. He concludes on syphilis by explaining that it existed in Europe before Columbus' first voyage to the Caribbean Islands in 1943. This thesis is opposed to the theory that will be taken up in 1847 by Yvaren in his critical edition of Fracastor.
