Breviary leaf, handwritten on wafer-thin parchment. Used by priests in reading Mass. Looks like new after almost 600 years.
At the blue initial in the left column on verso, the text is about the lauds, the morning prayer.
Eight large gilt-heightened initials, against a blue or brown background. There is fine decoration within the initials.
In red text instructions for the mass, directions for reading the text, including antiphonies (a), prayer, versicles (v) and psalm (ps).
With 29 written lines in two columns, in a black manuscript.
Written and illuminated in Tours, France, around 1485.
High-quality leaf. Especially the painting is in good condition. In some places, for instance on recto, the text is slightly worn.
Leaf size: 17.7 × 12.5 cm and type page with two columns: 8 × 11.3 cm.
Comes in an passe-partout to keep the leaf in good condition.
