The Chateau de and the Parc de Saint Cloud were a high place in the history of France in the nineteenth century. Bought from Philippe d'Orléans (Philippe-Egalité) by Louis XVI for Marie-Antoinette, a national property under the revolution, the park was intended for walks. Napoleon I carried out the coup d'état of 18 Brumaire, establishing the Consulate.
He made it his Imperial residence.
Napoleon III was also appointed Emperor.
The Parc du Chateau, formerly as today, was always the setting for major parties and receptions.
The Castle was burned and destroyed in 1870 during the Prussian-French War by French guns to destroy the German headquarters that had settled there.
