Wooden mask with simple and expressive features, with teeth in the mouth. On the face, the use of black and white pigment creates a contrast reinforcing the scary aspect for the villagers.
Masks from eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, in this case a Kumu mask, were usually worn for initiations with codified and complex rites, sometimes for several days, usually as part of a circumcision.
