Barthélémy / Hippolyte Bellangé et Horace Vernet - Napoléon en Égypte, Waterloo et Le fils de l'homme. Reliure Romantique. - 1842
Fashion, Fine Bindings, History, Literature, Militaria, Travels - Quantity: 1 - Book

Luxury first edition testifying to the strong return of the cult of the Emperor under the July Monarchy. In fact, it was published shortly after France had enthusiastically welcomed the return of the ashes (1840).

This work has the merit above all of having benefited from the assistance of the best historical painters of the time, Horace Vernet and Hippolyte Bellangé, student of Gros, known for his paintings of battles and military scenes, as well as one of the greatest history painters of the time.

First printing and beautiful abundant illustrations: 120 engravings in the text and 17 tipped-in, these were printed on China appliqué, including one by Vernet and 16 by Bellangé.

To these ornaments drawn by A. Féart and Daubigny are added. Published in 40 instalments and presented as the logical editorial continuation of the Mémorial de Sainte-Hélène.

Splendid romantic binding in full purple brown leather adorned with a rich decoration on the boards and on the spine in the style of Boutigny.
Fillets on the edges of the boards, interior dentelle, all edges gilt, moirée endpapers.

Very decorative binding, has some light defects: micro tear in the headcap without any fragments missing, two damaged corners. Sporadic pale foxing. A light dampstain in the upper margin of several leaves without it reaching the text. The paper of the tipped-in plates is browned, not affecting the China paper of the Engravings.
