Rare first edition of this legal history of the forest of Sequigny, now disappeared, in Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois (Essonne), published by Félix Perin, mayor of Morsang-sur-Orge from May 1898 to May 1908, who took an important part in the litigation at the time:
"The present work is none other than the story of the efforts made by the surrounding municipalities of the forest of Sainte-Geneviève to preserve the rights of use, the legacies of the great Kings and to defend the free movement that some individuals are looking to monopolise". (excerpt)
"Today (1903) on the contrary, what can one see? Landlords whose kings are no longer there to prevent abuses, seeking to encroach on the paths, digging holes and quarries under the pretext of clearing; not to mention some of these potentates who hermetically close roads by barriers, without any kind of embarrassment. One can see a speculator trying to sell part of the forest in lots; trying to create an artificial village whose name Beauséjour will never be more than irony! Rickety chalets, odorous guinguettes, garish orchestras, Barrière balls or musette balls! These are the Faubourian and vulgar news that we want to bring into the setting that served as a framework for the loves of the Great King."
Book illustrated with 7 colour maps, including 5 fold-out.
Half long grain leather with corners, ribbed spined adorned with the title, gilded author and year. Later binding.
Copy in very good condition, but the title page is missing. However, the original cover is preserved.
