The ballets Russes company was created by Serge Diaghilev. This ballet company provided 19 "seasons" of shows in Paris between 1909 and the death of its founder in 1929. It was an immediate success and participated not only in the renewal of classical ballet thanks to the choreographers Michel Fokine, Vaslav Nijinsky, Leonide Massine, Bronislava Nijinska and George Balanchine, but also, and above all, in the important changes that the set and stage costume underwent at the beginning of the twentieth century.
