Ariobarzanes I was a gentleman from Cappadocia
of an obscure Persian descent. After the
Roman Senate rejected the claims of Ariarathes IX,
he was made king by a vote of the citizens of Cappadocia and
with the support of the Roman consul in 95 B C.
