Mme Dufrénoy - Histoire de la Grèce Moderne, récit des faits mémorables des hellènes depuis 1770 jusqu'à ce jour - 1825
Interesting didactic story published in the midst of the Greek War of Independence, illustrated with 12 engravings outside of texts, a folding map in volume 2
In her foreword Ms. Dufrénoy writes "The tricks of diplomacy may delay the great day of the entire liberation of Greece: they will not prevent it from happening".
Indeed, in 1830 the Greeks, finally supported by the great powers, will succeed in having their independence recognized by the Ottoman Empire and in creating the Greek state on February 3, 1830.
Binding in vintage flamed calfskin and mirror. Smooth back adorned with two pieces of mosaic green leather and an elegant romantic decoration with golden irons, framing lace on the covers, in the center of the first the beautiful iron of "Université de France - Gollège Royal de Bourbon". Golden casters on cuts, slices and marbled guards.
Beautiful copy, back a little faded, the head cover of volume 2 a little leveled, friction at the jaws and cuts, 3 corners a little pierced. Fresh interior, foxing on some notebooks.
