Important blue Moroccan leather binding signed “G. de Mentque”. 8 gold and silver stripes applied horizontally in the middle of the plates to join the 8 raised bands placed in close sequence in the centre of the spine, title and author printed in gold and silver. Golden edges. Dust-jacket of half blue Moroccan leather with author and title printed in gold on the spine; cardboard case lined with marbled paper. Original paperback inside, well preserved with red title within a red border. 102 numbered pages, 19 full-page illustrated plates by Kay Nielsen and complete suite of as many plates at the end of the volume. 12 vignettes in black and white and 6 drop caps in the text. First edition, limited print run of 1500 copies, of which 150 with the extra suite at the end of the volume, like the present copy, numbered 20. Kay Rasmus Nielsen was a well-known Danish illustrator active during the first half of the 20th century, at the height of the golden age of illustration. He joined the artistic group of Arthur Rackham and Edmund Dulac. Nielsen is also known for his collaborations with Disney, which commissioned him numerous sketches and illustrations for its stories. In excellent condition.
