Mario Bellini - B&B Italia - Sofa - Bambole

Mario Bellini - B&B Italia - Sofa - Bambole

Le Bambole two-seater sofa designed by Mario Bellini between 1970 and 1972 for the Italian design manufacturer B&B Italia. The design started with a shopping bag full of stuffing that was placed on the floor and thus took on a different shape. In a shared research between the designer and the R&D department of B&B Italia, the design changed into the shape of a cushion. This 2-seater is also called the "Bibambola".

The prototypes were filled with the precursor to memory foam, after which a metal frame was integrated to give the sofa extra sturdiness. The metal frame was later replaced by foam only padding. This 2-seater still has the original metal frame, which means it is an early version. This Le Bamboo sofa is re-upholstered with vintage cognac leather.

The sofa is labelled with the logo of the manufacturer B&B Italia. The Le Bamboo collection received the industrial design prize "Compasso d'Oro" in 1979. Mario Bellini is known for his cushion-shaped designs such as the Camaleonda.
