Spain, Isabel II (1833–1868). 4 Escudos (1866), struck in Madrid. Rare. Gold.

Obverse: ‘ISABEL 2.ª POR LA G.' 'DE DIOS Y LA CONST' (Isabel II by the grace of God and the Constitution).
Laureate and draped bust left.

Reverse: complete Royal Coat of Arms of Carlos III, maintained by Carlos IV and recovered by Fernando VII when the House of Bourbon was reinstated in 1813. That was the coat of arms passed down to his daughter, Isabel II. It bears the royal crown and its quadrants alternate the arms of Castile and Leon, with those of Granada at the top and a central gusset containing the Bourbon fleurs de lis, surrounded by the collars of the Order of the Golden Fleece and the Order of Carlos III.
The mint mark is differentiated by stars with different numbers of points.
Legend: 'Reina de las Españas' (Queen of Spain) and the denomination '4 Escudos'.
