Beautiful, very fresh and clean copy of the Atlas of the Terrestrial Globe by geographer, engineer hydrographer Rigobert Bonne (1727-1794), produced for "the Philosophical and Political History" of Abbé Raynal, a major work of the Enlightenment, condemned in France from 1779

Rare and sought after, this atlas was sold separately and is often missing

The atlas consists of a title sheet, 1 map sheet, 28 pages of "succinct analysis of this atlas" and 50 intaglio engraved maps mounted on a tab, drawn up by Bonne, most of them engraved. by André (49 + 1 (17 bis) including 1 world maps and 1 planisphere, 8 maps of Europe, 9 of Asia, 7 of Africa and 24 of America) & 23 boards of tables, complete collation.

Binding of the time in marbled sheepskin, spine with 5 nerves adorned with a title piece in red morocco and an elegant decoration of boxes garnished with florets with gilded irons.

Beautiful copy, leveled head cap, rubbed jaws, the first cracked along the length, without gravity for the solidity of the volume, rubbed corners including 2 a little blunt. Fresh and clean interior, very discreet traces of humidity in the head margin of several cards, more pronounced on the first 15 cards, overflows a little on the engraving of the first 10 cards, on the first card a slight wetness in the margin of foot. Some traces of handling. Some small spots on the world map. Rare & light sporadic rednesses. The cards are in very good condition, very well printed, it is most likely the first printing.
