Precious testimony of ancient techniques inherited from the Carthusians. This treatise was very famous in America and found its way into renowned libraries such as that of Thomas Jefferson (ed. Of 1723) or George Washington (ed. Of 1706). "In 1704, Brother François Le Gentil, retired from the Chartreuse de Vauvert, published a gardening treatise with the eloquent title: Le Jardinier solitaire. At the beginning of the 18th century, the science of gardening and arboriculture were in full swing, and the Carthusians are at the forefront in this field and they constitute a nursery renowned throughout France and throughout the Western world: their fruit trees are exported to Poland and the United States! During the Revolution, the Chartreuse de Vauvert disappears. Yet the technical heritage and the varieties cultivated by the Carthusians have been preserved. Binding in full marbled sheepskin, spine with nerves adorned with a piece and an elegant decoration with small golden irons, red edges.
Solid volume, slightly faded leather, the toe cap leveled. The leather is pierced at the level of the cuts of the dishes, 2 blunt corners and the lower corner of the first cropped flat. Interior in good condition. a browned notebook with slight freckles. Slight traces of handling. Bookplate (
