There are European, French and overseas ports, famous sailors, scenes of life, shipwrecks, battles and naval constructions.

Encyclopedic sum of the navy of the time, to which the first maritime novelists contributed (Edouard Corbière, Eugène Sue, Fulgence Girard, Auguste Jal). The texts presented are sea stories or reports, extracts from French or foreign newspapers or magazines, letters from readers, or Lloyd's press releases. A table of contents classifies the articles into categories (shipwrecks, steam navigation, information concerning the navy, navigation, piracy, maritime penal code, nautical tables, voyages, phenomena, varieties, biographies, various news, views and drawings , peaches, bibliography, seafarers' walls, fine features, obituary).
