The Fossil Remains of the Animal Kingdom by Edward Pidgeon.
1830 First Edition Thus, London : Whittaker, Treacher, & Co.
pp: [vi], 544.
This work is the supplementary volume on fossils to The Animal Kingdom: Arranged in Conformity with its Organization, by the Baron Cuvier ... with additional descriptions ... by Edward Griffiths, and is volume IX of this English translated version of Cuvier's original work Le Règne Animal. Two title-pages in this volume, the first one stating this volume is the supplementary volume on fossils.
49 plates, many are pull-outs; one pull-out table.
Octavo sized (234mm X 153mm). volume in original publisher's glazed cloth binding with printed paper spine label, rough-cut edges.
Condition: Binding is sturdy despite the partial splits to outer hinges, and binding is mostly faded with the rear board retaining most of its original colour. Bumps to spine ends and fore-corners, some corner loss and age-dulling to spine label yet lettering remains very clear. Parent title-page is detached yet is present (can easily be tipped-in). and has a previous owner name in old ink to upper corner. Block is very sturdy with all leaves and plates securely held, and leaves have age-goldened a little yet are generally clean and clear - no foxing or even any occasional isolated spots, although a small number of the middle leaves seem to have a light pinkish stain to the upper page area with the two plates in this part being more affected (see photo). All plates present, although some have in varying degrees a water stain (see photos), the fold-outs in neat, crisp condition. Overall a very nice copy.
